JORD Wood watch giveaway: the perfect, lightweight, unique gift (for you or a friend!)

I’m excited to introduce an awesome product from JORD Wood Watches.  I’ve used many styles of watches over the years, from trendy to classic, metal to leather but never a wooden watch. I was intrigued by how a wooden watch would be different and can definitely say I love the feel and details of a JORD watch! You can enter to win one of your own at the bottom of this post!

My watch is a gorgeous dark sandalwood with a contrasting mint face.  There were so many styles of wood and face colors it was difficult to choose just one and I feel this one is great for all seasons and is a classic style.

JORD Watches are unique time pieces and come in tons of styles for men and women. These watches are handcrafted from natural woods including sandalwood, ebony, walnut, maple, etc. One of my favorite things about this watch is because it’s wood, it’s super lightweight. Since Texas is warm (or hot!) all year around this watch is perfect for the climate and doesn’t make my wrist even warmer.

I love that JORD Watches have custom sizing down to a quarter of a cm (for example, my watch is 16 and 1/4 cm and it fits perfectly!) No more ‘one size fits most’ sizing, a watch where you have to get resized or add an extra hole.

Another thing I absolutely love is the box the watch comes in and can be used for storage.  It’s a high quality, wooden box with a magnetic closing lid which protects your watch from exposure to temperatures or humidity. See, I’m not kidding when I say this box is gorgeous:

The design and overall aesthetic of this watch are so beautiful and I’m excited to be partnering with JORD to giveaway a $75 e-gift code to one lucky winner! They ship internationally too!

Click to enter the giveaway! Good luck! The contest ends 12/4/16.

JORD has also generously decided to give all contest participants a $20 e-gift code just for entering the giveaway!

Jen’s favorite things

There are a few products that I love so much and wish this could be like Oprah’s favorite things where she actually gives out the product, guess this recommendation list is the next best thing 😉

my-favorite-things

Charcoal face mask – Clinique claims this product will refine your pores and it actually does! You use it only 1-2 times a week (to prevent over-drying) and I love how fresh and clean my face feels afterwards.

Hydro Flask water bottle – keeps water cold all day without leaking condensation. I love the flip lid on this bottle with a wide-mouth opening that clips shut and doesn’t leak. I seriously take this bottle everywhere, it’s definitely helping  me with my health goal to drink more water.

Baker’s Twine – I bought a bulk pack with 6 different colors a few years ago from a daily deals site and love the twine for wrapping presents, treat bags, crafts, etc.

Steam Pocket Mop– we got this floor steamer when we moved to Draper and had new, beautiful laminate flooring. It’s super easy to use and maintain. I love the smell and feeling of freshly steamed floors.

Brow pencil – by Anastasia – I’ve posted about this before but after using a few other brow fillers (crayons, powder, etc) this one is by far my favorite. It’s easy to apply and get a natural look.

Running shorts – these fit great with a semi-high waistband that doesn’t ride up or slip. The 4-way stretch allows for maximum flexibility and it has a small zip pocket in the back. They are so comfortable to run and exercise in!

Their story is our story

There are approximately 65 million refugees worldwide (UNHCR) and approximately 500,000 homeless people in the US. I love this quote: “This moment does not define them, but our response will help define us.”  Thank you for your support for ‘Buy 1, give 1‘! I’ve been knitting like crazy and so appreciative of the people who have helped me with this project. It’s given me even more time to reflect on the blessed state in which we live and that the story of refugees and homeless in our country is also our story.

Hand-knit scarf: Buy 1, give 1

In 2009 we lived in DC, Salt Lake City and Edinburgh, Scotland – three amazing cities and also three cities that can get pretty cold. After seeing so many homeless people in the literal freezing cold, I decided I wanted to teach myself to knit with the goal of knitting scarves for those less fortunate in the winter. I’ve been doing this project since then and have found knitting relaxing, a way to boost my creativity and a way to help others. I realize knitting scarves isn’t a solution to homelessness but I feel it’s a small thing I can do to help someone.

I’ve lost count how many scarves I’ve completed to date, especially with breaks during the times when Brent and Tessa were born, but I would estimate around 45 scarves. I am now selling my hand-knit scarves with the promise of a buy one scarf and another one will be knit and donated to homeless or refugee shelter. You can buy one here through Etsy or contact me! Custom colors available. This will be an annual project from mid September to mid November every year. Thank you for your support!

Falling into Fall

Basically since going to BYU all those years ago, I’ve lived in a place with crisp falls and snowy winters. Since this is our first year in Austin, I’m looking forward to seeing how the fall and winter are. I’ve heard it can get ‘cold’ but no snow, and I’m not complaining! I do however, still enjoy the change of season and all the exciting things that fall brings – a little cooler weather, sweaters, scarves, boots, football, and pumpkin pie! Here are some of my fall favorites, I’m especially loving olive green right now.

The previous owners of our house had some weird make shift fire pit in the backyard because there’s an area with rock underneath where grass doesn’t grow. We figured it would be a great spot for an actual gas firepit to make s’mores once the temperatures drop.

How to stay modestly cool

I’ve lived in warm climates and humid climates, but I think Texas is the first really warm AND humid year around place we’ve lived. We moved here in the beginning of the summer and happy to say we’ve survived the heat thus far! I have a good feeling this winter will be really nice compared to our last few winters in Utah.

Besides hanging out in pools and splash pads in the blistering summer, I’ve found a few ways to stay cool while still dressing modestly.

Flowy skirts – although I’m a little short to wear midi skirts, I like them because I’m usually chasing kids around 😉

Relaxed fit tops – I love this one from Old Navy, was tempted to buy more than one, ha, ha. I especially love it because it DOESN’T require a layering tank underneath!

The Rose Nest: Shop Spotlight

I love finding non-chain boutiques because I enjoy the handpicked selections they offer, and the fact that a lot of them are also moms. The Rose Nest is an online, affordable shop I’ve been following for a while on Instagram. Fun fact: they are based in Cottonwood Heights (the suburb of Salt Lake City where Dave grew up)! Here are some of my favorite picks from their shop:

Midi dress (in multiple colors, I feel like this is the ‘it’ modest dress this summer)
